Deb Scott is a hard working mother who liked to think she had the perfect family a loving husband and a son but no. Deb found that her husband Dan was a manipulative arrogant son of a bitch who would do anything to stay in control. Because of this Deb quit her job at a charity foundation to stay at home but ended up becoming best friends with Dan's childhood sweetheart and mother to his other son Lucas , Karen. She and Karen became really close friends and later became joint partners of Karen’s businesses, Karen's Cafe and Tric. As time went on Deb found that her marriage to Dan was on the rocks and later asked for a divorce but her was persistent in refusing but when Dan finally came to see Deb and tell her how much he’d messed up and he loved her Deb had already found comfort in Dan’s elder brother Keith.

When Deb came to see Dan to apologise she found him on the floor following a heart attack but as she tried to help him an threatened her so she backed of and left him but when she saw he’d gone un-conscious she dialled the ambulance but still blamed herself for not acting sooner, on top of all that Deb had to deal with her sons sudden marriage to his girlfriend Haley. Deb was still a bitter woman because of Dan and persistently told Haley she would never accept her into the family. This caused a riff between Nathan and his mother which broke her heart. Following all of Deb’s turmoil she turned to pill and a bottle of what ever she could fined. As well as all this Dan had been told that he had recovered from his heart attack but he didn’t make Deb aware of this and told her that he had to stay and that this coursed Deb to rethink their divorce. It wasn’t until Nathan had an accident that she realised her problem and checked into rehab. Whilst in there Deb realised all of her problems pointed directly to her husband Dan and when she got out wanted to get away from him with Nathan once and for all. So when she went to see Nathan she told him she wanted the two of them to be a family without Dan. But there plan was ruined when Lucas gave Deb the ledger which showed all of Dan’s illegal activities but when Dan found the ledger missing he told Deb that because she owned a part o the business she was liable to it as well and could go to prison. So Deb told Nathan that there plans would have to be put on hold so she told him to go to basketball camp. This is when Deb concocted her plan. But this was interrupted by the news that the dealership had gone up in flames.

Deb and Nathan arrived at the dealership to find that Dan had been pulled out of the blaze much to there disbelief. Later Deb realised that now that Dan had recovered and that they should finally go through with their divorce as there was no going back for their marriage. But Dan had to put a spanner in the works he predated the divorce for 2 months so that he could run for mayor and he gave Deb an ultimatum help m win and I’ll you and Nathan alone. This really annoyed Karen so her and Deb put together a plan to sabotage his campaign but it ended up with Karen running against Dan. Having to run with Dan put pressure on Deb and when the election day cam and Dan won the office Deb was confronted by Lucas who finally told hr that he knew that it was her who set the dealership fire which frightened Deb who finally realised her charade was over but to her disbelief Lucas gave her the only piece of evidence that connected her to the fire. So following this Deb left town in a hurry only leaving a card for Nathan behind. It wasn’t until the nest day that Deb phoned Nathan to come to a motel that she revealed all to him that she had tried to kill Dan which annoyed Nathan but Deb told him a few home truths about Dan and he finally realised she had no choice and Deb decided to leave Tree Hill for a while.

Later after Deb heard of Keith’s death she decided it was time to return to Tree Hill. She knew it wouldn’t be easy but she had the safety of knowing that her brother Cooper was going to be with her seeing as Nathan had moved back in with Haley and wouldn’t be living at the house anymore. When Deb returned she saw that the café was closed so she went to see Karen who was still bitter over Keith’s death and it was then that Karen revealed to Deb that she knew all about her attempt to kill Dan and told her that the only difference between her and Jimmy Edward the one who everyone believes to of killed Keith was that he was successful in killing someone. But as there friendship is strong and they’ve been through a lot together Karen came round to knowing that Deb would never hurt her and they made up. Deb knew that Dan would still never leave her alone and got a shock when she found him in the house he said he was there because he wanted them to put everything behind them and start again because he thought she was alone but Cooper came in and Dan still having still not getting over the fact that it was Cooper who let Nathan drive the race car which he later crashed, it was then Nathan came home to find Dan there and told him to leave Dan still being his normal self making sly comments left but without threatening them. So later on at the basketball game Deb handed Dan a retraining order which meant that he had to stay at least 100ft away from them at all times and Dan was escorted from the building. It was the day of Nathan and Haley’s renewing of the vows ceremony and Deb went to Keith’s grave to pay her respects but Dan was there and Deb told him that Keith was a hero unlike him. Dan then revealed to Deb that he thought it was Keith who tried to kill him in the fire, Deb already knowing that it couldn’t possibly of been Keith who did it seeing as it was her. Still feeling low about Dan’s comment she went to Karen saying that she didn’t know that Dan thought it was Keith but Karen told her to forget about Dan because his revenge for the fire was buried with Keith but this still made Deb feel low in herself. It also didn’t help that seeing as they were still Nathan’s parent’s they had to sit together through the ceremony, which Deb didn’t mind as it was for Nathan and she was really happy that she finally got to see her son get married after the last time. After it had finished it was just Deb and Dan left at the alter and Dan made the comment that they should stop kidding themselves because they would be walking down the aisle again someday but, what Deb did next was not expected from Dan she told him to get real because she didn’t love him and she would never get back with him and then the big shocker she finally revealed to Dan that it wasn’t Keith who’d tried to kill him in the dealership fire but her.
